3 Days from Marrakesh desert tour to Chigagga

 

Erg Chigaga sahara dunes is a much younger and less-frequented destination. Erg chegaga dunes are in the southeast of Marrakesh, towards the Algerian border and they’re located over 60 kilometers away from the nearest town Mhamid. The desert is somehow more vast and wild here. Those opting for an Erg Chigaga desert tour should expect a rustic experience, without access to nearby hotels. This desert tour requires at least 3 days of travel through Ait Benhaddou, Draa valley palm groves and a rocky desert landscape before reaching the sahara dunes. The Erg chigaga desert tour is fascinating, the sahara desert trip that offer you the opportunity to ride a camel, climb sahara dunes, run the cinnamon-and-sugar sand grains through your fingers, admire picturesque views and sleep in tents or under the stars.

Day One: Marrakesh – Ait Benhaddou – Ouarzazate – Draa Valley – Zagora

We leave Marrakesh “Red City” is the most important former imperial city in Morocco’s history. It is Situated on the foothills of Atlas Mountains,which we will drive throughout for miles and miles enjoying the fascinating presence of superb and scattered Berber village. Almost half way we will pass by the Universal heritage of Ait Ben Hadou Kasbah,a fortified village of the 11th century. 35km from Ait Ben Hadou Kasbah we will visit Hollywood of Africa Ouarzazate, where the biggest filmmaking studios. The drive will go on along the longest valley all over the kingdoom 1052Km, and the biggest palm tree oases. Arriving to Zagora where the remains of an Almoravid fortress can still be seen

Day Two : Zagora – Tamegroute – Mhamid – Chigaga Dunes

We pass by Tamagrout which is situated on Draa Rive, in this small town we will visit one of oldest libraries of the kingdom. Driving along Draa valley to M’hamid, that is a very modest village. and not much different from the village you have passed before arriving here. From a vast plateau you will get impressed by the huge sand dune of Chigaga appearing from the horizon,where we go for a camel ride to meet one of the most fascinating sand dunes sights we will ever see, the superb sunset in the middle of the high sand dune. Tonight we stay in Berber camp and enjoy a wonderful stars view.

Day Three : Chigaga Dunes – Iriki Lake – Foumzguid – Tazenakht – High Atlas – Marrakesh

From Erg Chigaga we drive a long sand dunes on a peaceful and fascinating wilderness some passing by the natural dried lake of Iriki.30 years ago this lake was full of water and different kinds of birds. After a long way driving on an off-road, we get in to the paved road and pass the small town of Foum-Zguid, which is a noiseless and a sleepy Berber town. We stopover in Taznakht, it was a former trading post for this large region.This little Berber village is one of the biggest centers of carpets in the kingdom. From Taznakht we drive for almost 90 Km, along quite oases and plenty of Berber villages; to get to the junction in between Marrakech and Ouarzazate, We cross the High Atlas Mountains again to return back to Marrakesh.
