8 days atlas mountains and sahara desert

 

Combined amount Toubkal and Sahara excursion 

At 4,167m, Mount Toubkal is the highest mountain in North Africa. The hike to the summit is not really difficult, but it requires no mountaineering experience and the panoramic view from the summit makes the hard work forgotten.

For climbing this mountain you need just 1.30min driving from the nearest city of Marrakech; then you arrive to Imlil 1740m (Imlil is a small village in the heart of the High Atlas Mountains) from there, where you will meet your team, starts your hike. You can reach the summit and back within 3 days before the new adventure to Sahara begins for another 3 days exploring Moroccan desert. five valleys, different landscapes.

Itinerary: 

Day One: Arrival in Marrakesh 

You will be met at the airport and transferred to Riad / Hotel  in the center of city.  Once you have settled in, you have the time to experience the famous Djemaa el Fna square where you can see entertainers performing, a myriad of food stalls all lit up with the smells to accompany them and the general melee of activity. Dinner & Overnight stay in the accommodations Riad / Hotel.

Day Two: Depart for Imlil, trek to the Refuge (3207m).

After breakfast, we will pick you up from Marrakesh, depart and drive into the High Atlas mountains to the town of Imlil. This is just a 90 min journey. Once you have met your trek crew, complete with mules, you will trek steadily up to the Refuge, some 5 – 6 hrs walk. The Refuge is a large imposing stone building capable of housing many people, which is extremely useful in bad weather. Camping grounds are next door to the Refuge and it is often preferable in the summer months; it’s cooler. Approx 5 hrs walk. Dinner and Overnight stay in Refuge. 

Day Three: Summit Mt Toubkal (4167m) – Refuge (3207m).

A long day ahead as you have a pre-dawn start for the ascent of Toubkal(4167m). The terrain varies and can be steep in places. You will also highly likely cross patches of snow and certainly some sliding scree. There are some great views from the infamous triangle that marks the summit. Trekking poles are an advantage on this mountain, especially in the scree on the descent. The descent is by the same route and you can take your time as once back at the Refuge.Approx 7 hrs walk

Day Four: Refuge (3207m) – Sidi chamharouch (2310m) – Aremd (1.940m).

After breakfast, it’s a nice descent back to where the trek begun in aremd Village via sidi chamharouch ounce you arrive in aremd lunch there and afternoon explore Berber village also a nice hamam… dinner and overnight in our Riad.Approx 4 hrs walk.

Day Five: Aremd – Tichka pass – Ait Benhaddou – Dades gorge 

After breakfast we pick you up from our guest house at 7AM and departure to Ait Benhaddou over the high Atlas Mountains; passing through the Tizi N’tichka pass (2260m), visit the Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou and stop for lunch in a local restaurant. In the Afternoon we will drive to Ouarzazate and stop near the atlas film studios for a photo then continue to the city center for a panoramic view of the kasbah of Taourirt. After that you will head to Boumalne du Dades for a night.Dinner and overnight at a Hotel.

Day Six: Dades Gorges – Tenghir – TodraGorges – Tinjdad – Erfoud – Erg Chebbi Dunes. 

After breakfast we start from Dades gorgesto Erg chebbi Sahara desert in Merzouga. Fortified villages are scattered along the way, we will pass through Todra Gorges, Rissani, Erfoud and Tifilalte oasis, to attain the Hotel in Merzouga. After taking a break at the hotel we will take our stuff in small bags (the necessary for the night in nomad tents), and leave the other stuff in the hotel, you will ride the camels crossing the erg chebbi, dunes, this is a good time to take some photos of the dunes, camels, sunset and sunrise, when we get the camp we will walk up to the highest sand dunes to enjoy the sunset, Overnight in a camp (Berber nomad tents) with drum music at night around a fire. 

Day Seven: Erg Chebbi Dunes -Tazzarine – Ouarzazate – Tichka pass 2200m – Marrakesh.

We will get up early in the morning to enjoy the sunrise, then you ride the camels back to the hotel. After breakfast, return to Marrakech through different road and different Berber villages Alnif, Tazzarine and N’kob until Ouarzazate where we will have a break for lunch,the continue our way to arrive in Marrakech. Dinner and overnight stay in hotel/riad. 

Day Eight: Transfer back the Airport of Marrakesh 

After breakfast then you have time for shopping or something else in the center of city … then back to your hotel preparing your luggage etc … transfer two hours and half to the airport of Marrakesh we arrive before two hours schedule of your flights.
