Anti Atlas: Saghro Massif Volcanic Mountains 8 Days

 

The Jebel Saghro is a volcanic massif made of bothered rocks, rough pinnacles and basaltic conglomerates.This massif, isolates the valley of the Draa to the Dades Valley. Its most noteworthy point is Amalou N’mnsour achieving 2700 m. The landscape is practically lunar; it is a mineral world, crude and here and there sprinkled with thin valleys and profound gorge. All over you will meet the Ait Atta travelers who descend from M’goun at the virus season so as to brush their crowds of goats and camels.

Begin and end in Marrakesh! With the climbing and trekking in Jebel Saghro mountain 8 Days, you have an 8 day visit bundle taking you through Marrakesh, Morocco and 5 different destinations in Morocco.

Itinerary:

Day One: Arrival in Marrakesh 

You will be met at the airport and transferred to Riad / Hotel  in the center of city.  Once you have settled in, you have the time to experience the famous Djemaa el Fna square where you can see entertainers performing, a myriad of food stalls all lit up with the smells to accompany them and the general melee of activity. Dinner & Overnight stay in the accommodations Riad / Hotel.

Day Two: Marrakesh- Ouarzazate- Valley of One Thousand Kasbahs- Tagdilte village.

After breakfast we depart to the south of morocco  across the High Atlas mountain by Tizi-n-Tichka pass (2260m), Morocco’s highest road pass to get to the south . We travel through Ouarzazate, Skoura , roses and Dadés valley. We will see wonderful fortified villages en route to Tagdilt where we overnight in a simple village house – perfect for a cultural introduction as well as being the starting point for our walk the next day. 

Day Three: Tagdilte – Almou

 After Breakfast we meet our trekking crew who will accompany us for the next few days. Our luggage will be taken by our trusty mules. The first scenery we will see are small oasis dotted with fields of barley and slopes of fig trees. The trail we are taking weaves through an incredible valley before we begin heading uphill onto the volcanic sides of the Saghro. This area is full of deep gorges and black rocky peaks before hopefully passing a number of the Ait Atta nomadic camps and local shepherds with their grazing flock. We have a little break before heading over Tizi Ouzarzam Pass (2300m). After our descent we reach our camp and get prepared for our first exciting night under canvas.

DAY Four  : Almou- Igli

After a tasty camp breakfast we prepare for our ascent of Mount Kouaouche at 2500m – one of the most prominent peaks of the Saghro mountain, beautifull views to the south of morocco and high Atlas in the north, descent to the camp site on the rocks of Igli. 4 to 5 hrs walking.

 

DAY Five : Igli-Bab-n-Ali

Today we experience a total contrast from yesterday’s summit attempt. We will visit one beautifull valley, Afourar valley, with small village near of the incredible rock formations, area of one famous tribe in south of morocco, Ait Atta tribes They are still traditionally nomadic and the incredible landscape here is part of their lifestyle. Our camp site tonight is very close to Ali’s Gate.  4 to 5 h walking.

DAY Six : Bab-n-Ali – Assif Tawdachte

Our journey today takes us through the roads that are still used as trade routes with the neighbouring Sahara Desert. We’ll pass through small villages, hamlets and farms in the Ighazoun and Tawdachte Valley. The are is known for producing wheat, clover, carrots, hanna, tomatoes, chillies and orchards of almond trees. overnight in a simple village house before heading back to Ouarzazate or Marrakech tomorrow. 5 to 6 hours walking.

DAY Seven : Tawdache – Draa valley- Ouarzazate- Marrakech

Today we make our final journey back to Ouarzazate or Marrakech. We head past the snow capped Atlas peaks and across the Draa valley. We stop briefly in Ouarzazate – ‘the Hollywood of North Africa’ – popular with movie makers as Gladiator, kingdom of heaven,  Lawrence of Arabia, the Prince of Persia all being filmed here. we will drive over Tizi n’Tichka Pass before our afternoon arrival into Marrakech.

Day Eight: Transfer back the Airport of Marrakesh 

After breakfast then you have time for shopping or something else in the center of city … then back to your hotel preparing your luggage etc … transfer two hours and half to the airport of Marrakesh we arrive before two hours schedule of your flights.
